This morning I saved a woman from freezing to death, very happy to - TopicsExpress

This morning I saved a woman from freezing to death, very happy to say. I was out on my morning walk, when I heard Help me!, Help me! in the distance. I was able to discern the direction due to my good hearing. The sound was coming through a woods, so I guessed on the best course over there, and luckily was right on target. Headed up a long driveway into the woods, where I was greeted by two very agitated (worried and afraid) dogs. They circled me, barking and growling, but now I could see their owner laying down in the woods just off her driveway, down a little hill. The dogs behavior was threatening due to their owner being in distress, but she clearly needed help, so I wasnt about to turn back. She had slipped down the hill while trying to get the little dog out of the woods, and she was very stuck down there. I got down by her and helped her to her feet (difficult in the slippery snow), then walked her out. She had one foot in a splint already, but she was able to take the leash and walk to the house on her own power. I was concerned, I think she was embarrassed. I hope she doesnt have any frostbite. She said she was only there for 15 minutes, hope that was correct. One thing for certain, if I had not heard her cries for help, she would have died out there, even on a relatively mild January morning. This is actually the second time I have had the opportunity to save a woman from freezing on one of my winter morning walks. A couple of years ago I came across another woman, also in an isolated house, who had locked herself out. She didnt have a phone, and seemingly had no plan for what to do, she was just standing there in her nightgown. I used my phone to call one of her kids who lived right nearby, who then came and let her in the house. Lesson I am learning: It is dangerous for elderly people to live in isolated places (and not even carry a cell phone). Also, my morning walks save lives :-)
