This morning I watched Gloria Borger use a whole segment to setup an interview with John McCain about the attacks in France. Both John McCain and Gloria Borger then proceeded to theorize about what the Obama administration could have done to prevent the attack. This is what passes for journalism today. There isnt anything that could happen in the world that cant be linked to president Obama. Terrorist attack in France: blame Obama, A psychopath shots two cops in New York: blame Obama, Riots in Ferguson, Missouri: blame Obama. They never once mentioned that French citizens can travel throughout Europe as the please. Travel to Syria isnt forbidden, and French intelligence agencies had these men on a high threat list. The far right has done a masterful job of pushing the media further to the right. Most news organizations are so scared of being labeled as liberal that they use any chance to criticize this administration. The fact that everyone of the usual Sunday show guest were wrong in every prediction they made about the economy never gets mentioned. We were losing 750,000 jobs a month. We lost jobs every month during 2008, yet the 58 straight months of positive employment numbers gets covered as business as usual. I remember the panic that came with the collapse of the real estate market and the unravelling of synthetic securities. There is almost no objective economic metric that could be used to make the case that we are worse off now than in 2007-2008, yet journalist and pundits have made that case for 6 years. Even Austrian economist from the Von Mises institute have published papers that have shown the growth in western economies linked to our recovery, but we the people would rather listen to the hate machine.
