This morning, Im on a mission. 84th Chemical , B Co. 1st Platoon, Class # 3-15, Advanced Individual Trainings Chain of Command, are not taking ownership of one of their students. Aaron Gaff the brother of a former soldier of mine who served under me in OIF I, is an AIT student who received a Red cross message informing him his Father passed away. This soldier is without transportation to STL airport. His 1SG said, I dont care how he gets up there, when he signs out on leave, hes on his OWN. You know Ft.Leonard Wood doesnt have a courtesy Van or shuttle to take soldiers to the Airport during emergency leaves situations? His chain of command wont let an NCO take him, because of a Conflict of interest. It costs $300.00 to take a Taxi from Ft. Wood to STL. The Cape Air airlines on Forney Airfield, has recently streamlined and only flies out ONCE a day to STL, and thats in the evening. Grey hound is a Joke... Ft.Wood, the Maneuver Support Center of Excellence has failed this soldier. A Buddy Of mine and I, are rising to the challenge, and will be taking this Troop, Aaron Gaff to the Airport this morning, so he can join his family in Pensecola Florida, and grieve the loss of their father, far away from this MISERBALE, unsympathetic, uncaring, chain of command, whos only goal is training soldiers, not setting the example; Whos only mission is testing and not taking OWNERSHIP of one of their own soldiers during a crisis!! A Fair weather friend Chain of Command. They are a FAIL at doing all they can for this soldier during such a sad time. They only did what current PC Army policy expected them to do and no more. They washed their hands of Aaron. No going the Extra mile. No Fire mans carry for this wounded troop. Shame on todays Army, Shame on His chain of command, Shame on Ft. Wood for not taking care of its AIT soldiers in time of Crisis, and being BLIND to the fact that a soldiers chain of command isnt doing all they can.
