This morning Iredell County EMS crews responded to a reported Shooting at the Trinity Episcopal Church Preschool. The dispatch obviously sent fears through our service and community. Please see the below official press release from the Statesville Police Department: On Thursday morning January 16, 2014, Statesville police officers responded to the report of a man with a gun on the property at Trinity Episcopal Church on Henkel Rd. Upon arrival, officers discovered the elderly male outside on a bench, obviously deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. There was a preschool in operation at the church, however the church was locked, and all children were inside at the time. Investigators responded to the scene to conduct an investigation. At this time there is no evidence to suggest that the incident is anything other than a suicide. There was no affiliation between the deceased and the church, and no children or staff were in danger. It appeared to be a random location where this sad event took place.
