Lilly and already became a Canine Good Citizen after passing her test last year. We strongly urge all pit bull owners to practice and take this test. As a way to fundraise, Lilly the Hero Pit Bull Fund and Clear Skies Dog Training and Evaluation will be running the Canine Good Citizen test next weekend! • Saturday, June 14th • We will be running the test individually every 10-15 minutes, beginning at 10:30am. Once you have signed up, Clear Skies will provide specific time slots and location information • Houghton Pond area • 50% of the testing fee will go directly to the Lilly Fund to help dogs in need The AKC’s Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Program is designed to reward dogs who have good manners at home and in the community. The Canine Good Citizen Program is a two-part program that stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs. All dogs who pass the 10-step CGC test may receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club. Many dog owners choose Canine Good Citizen training as a great way to set training goals and to showcase your dogs good manners - and then have them officially recognized. The Canine Good Citizen designation shows people that your dog is safe and reliable. For pit bull owners who often have to deal with people automatically thinking their dog is neither safe nor reliable, the Canine Good Citizen designation proves that these dogs are mannered, stable, wonderful dogs. The test is officiated by a certified evaluator and is open to all dogs, regardless of age, breed, or mix – though we would love to see a lot of pit bulls signed up. The dog will be tested on ten items, each designed to show basic manners and the guardians ability to control their dog. The CGC test items are: Test 1: Accepting a friendly stranger Test 2: Sitting politely for petting Test 3: Appearance and grooming Test 4: Out for a walk (walking on a loose lead) Test 5: Walking through a crowd Test 6: Sit and down on command and Staying in place Test 7: Coming when called Test 8: Reaction to another dog Test 9: Reaction to distraction Test 10: Supervised separation >>>To reserve a spot please email Maura Porter at: clearskiesdogtraining@gmail.
