This morning, from 11 to 1:15 I lead the Youth Leadership Franklin kids on a tour of our work in battlefield reclamation around Columbia Avenue, letting them see firsthand, hopefully with an understandable explanation, of why we are buying Pizza Huts and Dominos Pizza buildings, Mexican Strip Malls and houses to tear them down (or move them, if worthy) to put the land back into a battlefield park. Next I take them to The Eastern Flank Battlefield and show them a golf course being returned to the battlefield it was. We eat lunch, have a discussion and then I take them on a tour of the Confederate Cemetery. Then I jump in the car and speed to Columbia to do the eulogy at a funeral. Now I swear, if anyone writes to console me, Its over with us. She was so ready to go. Her family asked me if I would. What could I say but yes? A friend told me I would be eloquent, respectful, slightly irreverent, moving, and memorable. From his lips to the familys ears.
