This morning on our YouTube Channel, we posted a story about someone who practices perhaps the last ubiquitous, ancient craft still to be found in our disposable society, one that many wouldn’t think about until they need it: a cobbler. Meet someone who works for long hours with great skills and a sense of pride and ethic that’s not necessarily found in more glamorous jobs paid ten or fifty times as much. DAN RUGER: A Cobbler who Goes the Extra Mile On the Eastern outskirt of Salt Lake City, Daniel Ruger practices an ancient craft that is slowly disappearing from Western, consumer society: he is a cobbler and his shop speaks of an almost bygone era when work was painstakingly done by hand with the help of rock solid machines that contained no electronics whatsoever. Trained in the 1960s by Armenian immigrants, Dan cares for his customers as much as he cares for his craft. Skilled as he is, he doesn’t charge very much and even goes to the length of making shoes from scratch for his older customers who cannot find replacement for shoes that had served them well for decades. For Dan, what goes around comes around and he wont compromise his own pride by gauging customers simply because they might not have somewhere else to go. https://youtube/watch?v=c3s1tqKXlB4
