This morning we have formally broken up with Elle Magazine (or as they called it splitting off). The Deleuzo-Guattarian in me wanted to enact some ruptures and to use the magazine as a vehicle for cracking through the terrible gender representations in the industry but it turns out Hearst Corporation and their Magazines is a machine that will not be tinkered with. Rather it was out to gobble us up and all of our amazing feminist findings and put a crappy logo on our resources to sell the magazine to a younger audience of girls. All with no actual financial support for the project! They felt their brand was payment enough! Angry expletive here *^%*&!!! So we are going it alone now - with the help of Gender and Education Association, and developing an alternative media plan. Support, ideas, comments are welcome from my wonderful friends and colleagues passionate about feminism, thanks for your energies in sustaining what is a real uphill battle!
