This morning we left Samsun with a couple of teams and travelled east as far as we could towards the ancient city ruins in Ani. It was baking hot and the scenery has been the best yet. The sea looked so clean and blue and later on the mountains were amazing. Got a photo of a Mercedes SEC with AMG wheels for dad (enjoy it old bean), did I mention how hot it was today, very hot indeed. We drove along the coast next to the Black Sea, which was amazing, almost to the Georgia border before heading south for the city ruins. Will didnt mention how far away the ruins are, Jesus! We drove up a mountain road, which dare I say it rivalled the Transfagarasan, truly awesome, we seemed to be driving up this mountain for hours and hours. The weird noise from the drivetrain was getting worse so we decided to find a garage. We happened to come across a mechanic and he reckoned the transfer box oil was low so we got to the next town and bought some transmission oil. I topped the rear diff up but the transfer box was full and its still making the noise so Ive messaged Dave from Bits 4 Vits and hopefully he will have an idea. Really dont want the transfer box to be goosed. So we carried on driving up he mountain and we stopped off and had some chicken on the way, Bleddyn enjoyed it too so marinated chicken has now been added to his food list 👍 we carried on driving and it was getting colder, then we saw a sign for the summit saying 2,500 metres and the other team said their car showed the temperature as 7 degrees! The air was noticeably less humid and fresher to be fair, the Jimny didnt enjoy it one bit. We carried on to the town closest to the ruins called Kars and we are now staying in the rapiest hotel of the trip so far. But it was cheap! Ruins tomorrow and then Georgia border crossing! Hopefully another positive garage visit on the way too.
