This morning we left early for sunrise at the Charleston Harbor. The problem is, there was not really a sunrise. We traveled next to the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology for breakfast, then on to Shore Acres, which is a state park. This park was formerly the grounds of the Louis Simpson estate, which had a mansion, huge formal gardens, and the best view in Oregon of the coast. The geology of this area had both hard rock and sandstone, which results in unusual formations as the waves erode the rock. Later we traveled to the Umpqua Lighthouse, where we were given a tour and allowed up into the center of the beautiful Fresnel lens. Unfortunately, technical problems with my card and laptop resulted in a deletion of my photos of the both lighthouse and lens. Cest la vie...
