This morning we looked at the legend of Faust and selling ones - TopicsExpress

This morning we looked at the legend of Faust and selling ones soul. We reflected on Carol Ann Duffys take on the world seen through the eyes of Mrs Faust and saw that the Faustian bargain corrupts all who come into contact with Faust. That lead us to think about institutional Faustian behaviour, selling the organisations soul. That happens in both public and private sectors, think banking sweat shops clothes making and poverty prices for basic commodities. Think too about institutional racism (police), about institutional neglect (Mid Staffs NHS) and institutional safeguarding failures (Rotherham and various churches). This is what Jesus asked us to acknowledge about ourselves and to be ready to turn away from, the better to witness to the saving truth of Gods redeeming love. In daily life, the Christian path may well be the whistle-blowers path, the voicing of unfashionable and uncomfortable truths. By Gods grace we shall all be given courage to follow that path and confidence to continue when we stumble.
