This mornings news, albeit predicted for weeks now spells in LONG TERM potentially VERY bad news for Ireland and for Irish sports once the deal is signed off.... how can ANY Government GUARANTEE that these slots will remain for more than a short period maybe 2/3 years. Welcome to the new world of British Lingus. Not good news either for British provincial airports and long term inevitably lots of lay offs......eg: Bristol,Cardiff etc. The most likely REAL winner though will be Ryanair once they agree to sell their vast share at a reasonable price. That will allow them to purchase/lease many new planes to expand worldwide. inc U.S routes.. B.As main interest is the heathrow slots...... Admittedly all ifs and buts just now but long term NOT good news other than for shareholders, rich businessmen/companies and the like.... ALL Irish Governments past and present have messed this up long term as German CEO runs the show behind the scenes and will in a year or so leave with a huge payoff from taxpayers! What next the Ireland itself?
