This morning’s inclement weather has resulted in a change of plans for today’s North Carolina Azalea Festival Queen coronation. The event, in which Azalea Queen Kirsten Haglund was due to arrive at the Wilmington Convention Center after a jaunt up the Cape Fear River on the Henrietta, will still take place at 3 p.m. The queen and her court will now arrive at the convention center for the coronation the old fashioned way, in a car. Haglund, Miss America 2008, will be crowned in front of fans, city officials, and North Carolina Azalea Festival enthusiasts during a coronation ceremony. The queen’s coronation is the official kickoff event for the weekend-long festival. Haglund, 25, is the festival’s 67th queen.
