This new offensive by the Ferguson police against protesters demonstrates to me that the powers that be are feeling the pressure. We must keep the pressure on. Only the most fearful of tyrants force their dissenters to move constantly when exercising their freedom of speech. As legal experts, like Tony Rothert, tell us, what the police are doing is outside of the law. But, really, it doesnt matter if every arrest they make over the next few days is eventually thrown out of court; individual convictions is NOT their goal. Their goal is to break the spirit of the protesters. Their goal is to wear us out. Their goal is to make those protesters who are trying to avoid arrest feel the fear of risking arrest at every protest. Their goal is just to make us shut up. The first time I saw the Ferguson police today, they said, You have all already been warned that if you stop moving you will be arrested. So, despite the fact that I just arrived, the presumption on the part of Ferguson police was that I had already been given my warning and was subject to arrest. Tonight, Tef Poe has called for a noisy protest at the Ferguson Police Department at 10pm tonight. The turn out tonight will, in part, demonstrate whether the police tactic of enforcing no static assembly has worked to divide and weaken the protesters. I hope you are planning on going.
