This ode was written by my friend Ellen White. It is touching that someone would think of me, and write poetry! An Ode to Anthony Mitchell Sammarco Now listen up folks, to hear a story That is all about Dorchester in its glory Honey Fitz was from here – his daughter Rose you may know Of the accomplishments of her sons – to the White House one did go. Now you’ve read Theodore White’s Pulitzer Prize winning tales Yes, White often roamed Dorchester’s hills and dales Mason’s Prince Hall Lodge is the oldest of its kind In 1784 their agreement was signed. The Animal Rescue Leage was founded here Cats and dogs made themselves at home with nothing to fear Howard Johnson sold ice cream – in flavors twenty-eight Each orange-colored roof signaled goodies that were great Ladies and gents who enjoyed tastes bizarre Loved Mr. Pierce’s pate de fois gras Some say Childe Hassam’s work is the finest of fine Anthony says of it “I wish it were mine.” Many years ago the odor of chocolate filled the air Most remember Baker’s Chocolate and the factory in the square A role model for all was Lucy Stone Retained her maiden name, received a college degree; she stood alone Capen House, Pierce Square, Franklin Park and Codman Square Oh!
