This page totally supports the Lifes A Beach - stop the extended dog ban in St Ives page. Please pop over and Like them, to support the campaign against the totally corrupt DCO which sees a TOTAL dog ban on ALL St Ives beaches during the summer, except for a few hours on Harbour Beach at night and very early in the mornings. If you want an example of what happens when corrupt politics gets out of hand, you will struggle to find a better example than what has happened in St Ives. The St Ives case came about (as these DCO cases so often do) because one or two people with good contacts on the town council decided to try and get their wish to extend the dog ban. The existing partial ban, which allowed dog owners on all the local beaches in the evenings and early mornings, seems to have been accepted by most people as being imperfect, but acceptable. But it wasnt enough for those who wanted to see dogs banned completely. Fabricated allegations, overblown reports and an awful lot of scaremongering followed, as well as some extremely unsavoury tactics adopted by the pro-ban lobby. Under Defra guidelines, no council can introduce a DCO without 1) demonstrating that there is a need for it; and 2) holding a public consultation to assess how the general public feel about the DCO proposals. The only justifications the pro-ban lobby came up with, for introducing the ban, were completely fabricated. Overblown reports which would never have even been taken seriously by the council, were it not for familial ties that gave the pro-banners an in; too much emphasis put on the complaints of dog haters while the very real concerns of dog lovers were brushed aside and denigrated as emotional by the ban supporters. The results of the public consultation showed overwhelmingly that two thirds of respondents were OPPOSED to the ban. The council had anticipated this and had long been openly saying, to the Cornish press, that the results of the public consultation would NOT influence their decision! Talk about a public confession! Their minds were made up long before the public consultation even took place, and they plainly didnt give a damn what the general public thought about it anyway. Democracy? Definitely not. Discrimination? Oh, absolutely. The Lifes a beach campaign has been fighting a fantastic fight on behalf of all residents and holidaymakers, to stop the total ban being introduced. Now that it has been (total disregard for public opinion AGAIN), Lifes a beach are fighting to have the DCO overturned. I am sure they would appreciate your support. Do pop on over to Lifes a beach and Like them if you are against discrimination and want to see an end to the influence of The Old Boy Network in local councils. Our local councillors are meant to serve the interests of US - the local people who vote them into power - NOT misuse their power for their benefit of family members and local business chums! https://facebook/lifesabeachstives?fref=ts
