This paragraph comes from a book called _The Beautiful Risk: A New Psychology of Loving and Being Loved_ by James H. Olthuis. It is not a book about meditation - however, I couldnt help but think that his words of wisdom apply to our practice of contemplation. What do others think? The secret to living is not to adopt a mind of safety in which we try to hold off and control the flux (which is the modernist temptation) nor to resign ourselves to powerlessness in the flux (the postmodern temptation). The secret of a full and abundant life is instead to join forces with the flow of Gods love in the world, and to take up ones life as a coworker in Gods ministry of healing. Finding and owning love - the passion - that gives our lives meaning is to set out on a journey in which we find and foster deeper and more healthy connections with ourselves, others, creation, and God. Then we are engaged in the ministry of compassion, which is life. Dilige, et quid vis fac, wrote Augustine - Love, and do what you will. ~James H. Olthuis
