This past Saturday, the Edison High School Marching Band hosted - TopicsExpress

This past Saturday, the Edison High School Marching Band hosted their annual band show. Over a dozen bands from around the state participated in this kick-off event of the marching season. Both of our Edison bands – JP Stevens and Edison High were present – JPS competing in the “6 Open” division, and EHS, as the host, performing in exhibition. Because of the rain earlier in the day, the show had a two hour delay to allow the rain to pass and all participating bands to be able to perform their full shows on the field at the stadium. It turned out to be an exciting evening of music and pageantry. Parents and friends of the various bands filled the stands, the principal of EHS was in attendance as was the BOE’s supervisor of Music/Visual Arts. But where was the representation from Township Administration? Yes, the Township’s Sponsored “Fall Festival” was scheduled for the same day – but certainly one or more representatives from the Administration could leave that event for an hour or so to support the students – one would think – right? Wrong. Early in the day, it was discovered that NOT ONE member of the township administration (Mayor or Council) would be attending any part of this day. In the past – Mayors and some Council members always attended this event – even if just to watch the two township bands perform – I can definitely speak to the fact that Antonia Ricigliano and Jun Choi always supported the program and the children, and I believe administrators prior to those two also attended. Sadly, in passing conversations with citizens in attendance – the general opinion voiced was that it was not at all surprising that no one from the current administration would take time to support the students. What an awful statement and expectation Shame on the current administration – Mayor and Council! Both of your High School bands have been working hard and will continue to work hard all season to bring pride, honor and recognition to our town. Your EHS Marching Band is reigning National Champions – don’t they as well as the JPS students deserve better? Is supporting the youth of our town so difficult or worse – unimportant? The kids know who cares about them – all those people cheering and encouraging them in their performances and more. Too bad our administration doesn’t factor into that equation.
