This past week, my future bride and I (Mary) drove up the Willamette Valley to try some Oregon Pinot Noir. Here are my findings: 1. Oregon is downright gorgeous; the view are stunning, the landscape spectacular, and the cost of living is... wait for it... really cheap comparatively. 2. Some of the wineries in the Dundee Hills AVA are works of art. 3. The tasting fees START at $15 and go to $40 AND are not waived with purchase, but are added to the cost of your wine. *ugh* In fact, we saw one group of three people sharing a single glass for tasting. 4. Several of the wines we tried were mediocre at best and somewhat disappointing considering the bottles started at $50+. 5. That being said, we did find several well built and wonderful Pinots. Domaine Serene, Domaine Drouhin (DDO), and Vista Hills were the stand outs. 6. Everyone at the wineries (staff) were exceptionally friendly and charming ...except one place. Ken Wright Cellars. The tasting room manager refused to support industry and would not sell us anything less than 6 bottles at a time (i.e. minimum purchase of ~$360). Guess this is their business model. Needless-to-say, we left immediately and wont be returning. Ever. In summary, and at least in the Dundee Hills AVA, enjoy the views and the wine is good, but youd better bring your wallet. Matt
