This post is for all my friends in NaNos frenzy. :) Yes, Im talking to Cynthia Quiroga, Cynthia Ogg, Warren Bennett, Jess Molly Brown, Andrea Staum, Betty-Jo Gordon, Roxie Prince, Jennifer Garcia, T.m. Franklin, and Anna Lund! Write, but do not edit! Not Yet!!! Shelve your perfectionist tendencies and remind yourself of your goal, today and every day until you hit your 50K goal. The goal for NaNo is NOT to produce a publish-perfect story - though your story (or stories) might indeed be ready to see the light of day eventually, that day is NOT TODAY. Nor tomorrow. Nor November 28th. Instead, focus on the word count. Dont delete your words, for Petes sake. Write them out. Get them out of your head and on to your medium of choice. Does your character stutter? Is your villain acting like an idiot? SO WHAT? This is a first draft and is called that for a reason. You get the fun of revisiting the speech, of tidying up your bad guys... LATER. So write. Type. Talk to your dictation application. Whatever it is you do, do it without fear of a semi-colon conscious proofreader or a developmental editor. Just do it and dont look back. At least, not til December. Or January... Or.... Yeah. :)
