This post is for the grandchildren of Johnny & Ruby Bounds, one of whom specifically asked me for my memories of their grandparents nifty ol mule. Here goes: We lived next door to Ruby & Johnny, at the corner of Porter Mill and Braggs. Our fields were often planted in corn. Late summer nights, wed wake to the sound of crunch, crunch, crunch. That meant only one thing -- Johnny Bounds mule got out again! My Mom would get up, dress, wait for dawn, and then run down the driveway, flapping her apron to chase the mule out of the cornfield, shouting, Shoo! One morning in particular sticks in my memory --> Mom hollering Shoo, and that funny, funny mule trotting down our driveway with an ear of corn crossways in his mouth, ears pricked up, and flapping his tail back at Moms apron, as if he were laughing at her. (But also leaving her some presents.) Later, after Mr. bounds penned the mule (again!) Mom would sit with iced tea and grin & grin, Later still, shed go out and pick up the hockey pucks that the mule left for fertilizing her flower beds. I always thought they had a trade agreement, Mom and that mule!
