This proposal is a farce. The public dont want it, the British government wont support it and anybody with even the most basic reasoning facilities should be appalled by it. You have the right to practice a religion. You do not however have the right to discriminate against people whose identities you find disagreeable on the basis of a subjective belief system derived from that religion. Why should those with ignorant religious beliefs with regards to people with identities that differ from their own be allowed to act on those beliefs in wider society? The answer is self-evident: they shouldn’t. Paul Givan is presenting this as if those who hold religious beliefs are oppressed or somehow victims; they are not. Their beliefs are already disproportionately represented, protected and enshrined in our society, in our institutions and in Stormont. Nobody else in wider society is safeguarded quite like religious people are. It’s offensive and the offence is exacerbated by religious zealots like Paul Givan asking for more and more every time they feel threatened by a society that progresses towards a less crude and less repugnant moral system than that which has been spawned from ignorant interpretations of the Bible. It’s patently obviously the only person Paul Givan has any interest in representing is himself and his fellow religious zealots and the only agenda he wants to pursue is his own. Aaron Mc
