This really captures some of the major problems with John MacArthurs Strange Fire book and conference. Since I have had some questions asked of me recently regarding MacArthurs book, I am going to post some info in the coming days regarding some of the theological issues and even downright dishonesty in MacArthurs book and teachings regarding this matter. I agree with the teacher in the video when he says MacArthur rightly critiques heretics such as Benny Hinn and Joel Osteen, but I also agree that MacArthur is very dishonest when we places scholarly giants such as Wayne Grudem, D.A. Carson, Gordon Fee, John Piper, and others under the same umbrella. MacArthur even says at one point--quoted in this video around 37 minutes into it--that he is not bringing division to the body of Christ but definition. He means, by this, that he is defining who is and who is not a Christian simply based upon whether they are a cessationist like himself. This is unfortunate because by doing so, MacArthur removes the centrality of Christ and His Gospel from the core of Christian orthodoxy and instead makes it about whether or not someone subscribes to his cessationist beliefs (which, I might add, has zero biblical ground in my opinion). I will post more in the future. These are just some introductory thoughts.
