This summer I posted a kijiji ad in Kitchener, Cambridge & Stratford entitled Honeybee Rescue and Removal. I received 50 responses, most in August when I would receive up to 4 a day. In only 2 instances did I find that the responder was actually dealing with Honey Bees. In one case I was amazed to find a Bumble Bee nest in a Stanley Park shed. In every other case I found that the problem was actually wasps, yet in each instance I was asked to help with someones Bee Problem. Many of the major cities in North America recognize the value of pollinators and the growing contamination of the environment in agricultural areas. Residential pesticide use is being controlled and the diversity of city plants and flowers is making our neighborhoods a refuge for Honey Bees and other pollinators. A Monarch butterfly is lucky to arrive in Bechtel Park in Kitchener but will probably die of pesticide poisoning in rural areas of Waterloo Region (or during migration through the corn belt of Americas mid west). Many cities recognize the gentle nature of Honey Bees and their value to the environment. Honey Bees are being welcomed in more and more cities across North America. *Unfortunately the City of Kitchener Bi-Law department classifies Bees with Wasps and as stinging threats and orders their removal even in cases where there has been no evidence of any problem ... except with wasps.* Can you tell the difference between a wasp and a Honey Bee? In this lovely Bee video note the hairy thorax, the broad transparent wings and the short(er) brownish antennae. Please dont use pesticides. Please share this post. Please support a change to our Bi-Laws to recognize and accept Honey Bees and other pollinators in our City. vimeo/72599299
