This summer, the East-West Center hosted young environmentalists in a new US-sponsored program called Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI). This years group: talked with plant scientists about the genetic modification debate at the Hawaii Agriculture Research Center; visited HPower, Hawaiis waste-to-energy facility; learned about Hawaiis unique water sources and treatment methods at electric company, HECO; and worked the taro patch (lo‘i kalo) at the Kamakakuokalani Center for Hawaiian Studies at UH Manoa.
