This summer we would like to add a new division to @Hammonds Plains Baseball – Challenger Baseball. WHAT IS CHALLENGER BASEBALL? • A program that provides an opportunity for children with cognitive and/or physical special needs to enjoy the full benefits of participating in baseball at a level structured to their abilities. Our plan right now is to reach out to all of you to help us get the word out. I have no idea who out there may have a child that would want to play in this league. They don’t have to live in Hammonds Plains. Dartmouth Minor Baseball is also trying to create a few teams. Both of associations able to take kids who live in the surrounding regions. Our champions for our association are Susan Flewelling and Evelyn Shea. Guest coach will be our Mosquito AAA coach – John Simpson. Susan has five sons – Peter is the oldest, John and Matt both are registered in our midget program and can be seen at almost every camp helping as volunteers. Her youngest two sons, Patrick and Joseph both have Downs Syndrome. Patrick and Joseph have played for the last few years, However Susan is thrilled we are branching out to offer something new in a sport that all her boys love. Evelyn Shea has 4 children. Her son Brodee is also registered in our midget program, and youngest daughter Madison is in our bantam girls league. Evelyn is also the owner of Cars-R-Us in Lower Sackville. She has generously offered to purchase brand new uniforms for this worthwhile program – Thank you Evelyn. The success of being able to run such a program, is having “able bodied buddies” help the players get around the base paths. I have attached a more detailed explanation of this great initiative. I know how involved so many of our young players have been helping out, so I am really hoping they once again can “step up to the plate” I know – groan The young volunteers we had here in Hammonds Plains So please pass this along to any families you think might be interested. Our goal is to start mid-June - and to play every second Sunday afternoon – 3:30 to 4:30 at Allen Heights . Hoping to gather enough players for two teams. More info will follow to those who sign up Thanks Holly [email protected]
