This time of year is always hard for me. The Inn is slower, so we are always on the teetering on the edge of not being able to cover bills and mortgage. It is frustrating as we have a great business with untapped potential. The planned expansion would take care of all of our monetary problems. We have a wonderful day spa with great therapists. However they do not quite commit or take the risks we need them too to take it to the next level. We try to look after them, but it does not seem like a two way street (especially today). Then starting September 1st I get upset that the boys died, that keeps me good and grumpy for a week or two. Then we move in to the holiday season, which I love, but reminds me that my family is all in Australia, and I miss them and the fact that they miss seeing my kids grow up, and that we get no support from family locally. So we are left some great friends, but again most of you do not understand our business, the strange hours, the constant need to be here. I was asked to attend the school board meeting to add my voice to advocating for a full time principal at the school. Right in the middle of check-in time. No I cannot take 15 minutes even to run to a meeting like that. Then my guests checking in wonder what the hell is going on as Casey tries to wrangle three kids and convince the guests they are going to have a great relaxing stay. A few of you will understand parts of this. Those that lost babies will get that part. Those that work in hospitality or own B&Bs will get that part. Those with family far far away will get that. However none of you will quite get it all. Oh well that is the end of my rant. May even cut down the friends list, piss a few of you off. Oh well, your loss if you take it that way.
