This time of year is incredibly depressing for me. No, its not about the holidays (although I often find those rather sad as well, for somewhat different reasons). No, it has to do with the unbridled passion and enthusiasm that so many people have for opening day of hunting season. Ive heard all of the reasons given why hunting is necessary, but the only one that really holds any water for me is culling the herd (although nature seemed to do just fine for thousands of years before we came along...but thats a different argument). But the way people look forward to it all year long, the look they get in their eyes when they talk about it....its so very disheartening to me. I really cant describe it as anything other than sheer bloodlust. Necessary or not, why do so many people have to take such glee in killing?
