This time one week ago, the Walkie Talkies were on the home stretch of the 100km Trailwalker... Thanks so much to those of you who have generously made a donation to Oxfam on behalf of our team - Jocelyn Tam, Amy Tse, Pauline Yeung and myself! Just wanted to let you know that we finished the 100km injury-free and as a full team in just over 36 hours last Saturday. We made the judicious decision to rest for a few hours near the 60km mark after one of us slipped off Ma On Shan. She was savvy enough to know to relax into the fall, and to hang onto the long wet grass on the slope for dear life so we were able to scoop her back onto the trail and carry on in gale-force winds with the strong monsoon signal hoisted, and rain patches that were actually relentless showers. The short break was enough to refuel us so we could finish the second part of the journey - up and over Golden Hill, Needle Hill, Grassy Hill and finally Tai Mo Shan, before running down the winding Tai Mo Shan Road to Route Twisk and finishing the last 20k to the finish line at Tai Tong. Im proud of my mates, one of whom did Trailwalker last year as a volunteer guide for a blind participant... Women are in the minority in Trailwalker, with just 42 all-womens teams out of the 1,191 who finished in one form or another. Even after stopping for a break, we managed to place 665 out of the 1,191 overall... despite being quite a bit more mature than the vast majority of participants. And we placed 27th out of those 42 all-womens teams, among which we were probably the most senior. The Walkie Talkies are hoping to show that you can stay healthy and active as you age, to encourage others to get moving, while also raising funds for Oxfams wonderful works. You can click here to see our fundraising link and chip in, if youre willing and able: https://oxfamtrailwalker.org.hk/opencms.war/opencms/_info_/join/registration/teamPublishPage.jsp?teamId=25386&teamNo=0344&__locale=en Alternatively, you can let me know if youd like to sponsor us, however small the amount. For those who have already allocated your charity budget for the year, who believe this is a great cause but are unable to donate, or who simply say no thanks, no worries! There is no harm in asking, right?
