This totally makes sense. All American based airlines are loaded with former military personnel. The vast majority of pilots are ex-USAF/Navy/Marine jet jockeys, the maintenance crew, are also most are ex-military. I have flown a lot, in every major airport in the US and never witnessed this at an airport before. It is totally cool. There they are, in the rain, at ATL (Atlanta) volunteering to be an honor guard. Thanks to Robyn Camp Griffin for bringing this to my attention.
