This very well could be the way of the future funding for Transportation in North Carolina. With the shrinking fuel consumption which in turn shrinks tax dollars collected at the pump we are headed into a troubled future for Transportation in North Carolina. I am fully in support of user taxes to provide funding for Transportation because I think user taxes are the only fair and equitable taxes. You dont want to pay for your fair share then dont use it. Dont ask someone else to bear your burden. If the gas tax or some substitute like this goes away then I am afraid North Carolina might become like Georgia with local roads being funded by Property Taxes which is an unfair way to pay for roads. I hope you will write or contact your Legislators and tell them to make Transportation funding user generated so that if you use you pay for it.
