This was a post I made about the movie last weekend, but since MLKs birthday is today I thought I would share it on my page: Selma was a good movie in my honest opinion. I do not agree with how MLK and his followers from an ideological standpoint, because obviously trying to appeal to the better nature of white supremacists didnt keep us from being beaten, killed and raped. Lets be real not much has changed since then! The first 5 minutes of the movie will either make your heart stop, bring you to tears or piss you off, maybe all three, but I do not want to spoil it for anyone who hasnt seen it. Throughout the movie, it was made clear that one of the white supremacists biggest fear, especially LBJ, was the rise in power of Black militant groups. They knew that it was either deal with MLK who is leading a non-violent protest or take a chance of the Black Panther Party or Malcolm X raising the people up. I did not know that Malcolm X ever came to Selma, AL, but he had after he left NOI and spoke with Corretta Scott King while MLK was in jail. Bayard Rustin was in the movie too, but he didnt have a significant role in the movie. I believe they only addressed him by his name one time in the movie. The movie didnt sugarcoat how we were treated and gave an very honest portrayal of how whites felt about Black people--especially LBJ. That is all that I can really think of about it now. If I can think of anything else about it, Ill add it in the comments. #Selma #Ferguson
