This was going to be the week where we would get some striker(s) - TopicsExpress

This was going to be the week where we would get some striker(s) through the door, and manager Alan Pardew was hopeful of having somebody in before the St. Mirren game on Tuesday night, and after the 2-0 win he said he was hopeful of getting someone in before the game at Rangers next Tuesday night. It all started on Monday morning when we learned that Lyon President Jean-Michel Aulas had turned down Newcastle’s increased offer of £6.8M for French International striker Bafetimbi Gomis, who is a free agent next summer. That was a good offer from Newcastle, and there is still hope we can get him through the door, and it looks like some of our Frenchmen like Moussa Sissoko or in communication with him, which is very positive. And then Joe Kinnear went after Darren Bent, probably our third choice target, but he needn’t have bothered as it turned out we were willing to offer only £2M to Aston Villa and couldn’t get close to matching Bent’s wages of £70K/week, and it looks like the door is now open for Fulham to sign him. And then late yesterday there was a bit of a blow when we heard from QPR boss Harry Redknapp, that the club were unwilling to loan out Loic Remy, although QPR then announced they had signed Charlie Austin from Burnley. That may help to change things, but it looks like Tottenham could sell Gareth Bale for over £100M to Real Madrid (Newcastle didn’t bother bidding) and Spurs will use some of the money to strengthen their side, and both Remy and Gomis has been mentioned as potential targets in some reports.
