This was hard to watch. I have seen many of the various “ALSicebucketchallenges” all over the internet for the past month or so with a mixture of gladness and sadness. I am glad that funds are being raised for this dreadful disease but I am sad because it hits too close to home. My father died of ALS and watching him suffer just as Pete Frates has done was one of the hardest things my mom, my brother and I have ever had to do. My father went from being a strong, funny, active man to being bed-ridden, unable to cough up the phlegm that always choked him, unable to eat on his own, and unable, in the end, to even blink. No one should have to go through this disease. So, while I am very thankful for the awareness and funds being raised for ALS, I am hurting for the families that have had to deal with its consequences daily. So while it would be too hard for me to do an ice bucket challenge, I will just donate, as I often do, to end this terrible disease. I challenge you all to do the same. Help create a world without ALS! https://secure2.convio.net/alsa/site/Donation2?df_id=27420&27420.donation=form1
