This was posted by Sean Harley who has studied family geneaology for over 26 years. Thank you Sean for all of your hard work. Recently a family member in the Piscataway-Conoy Tribe page disclosed his DNA results- it came back 63% European and 37% African, and he was shocked that 0% Native American came back. I would love to get the thoughts of family here, and if you have done the DNA tests as well. His was through Ancestry. I actually have been the administrator for years of a DNA group for the family which has been kept private in some part because of the tribe. I would like to bring this topic up for discussion here now, since the cousin is a tribal member and was led to believe that he had Native American in him. This is not an attack on the tribe, but I feel that many where misled to believe that they were 100% Indian. This is not to say that American Indians were not in the Maryland area, however, many of the families have already been tested for the Harley-Proctor-Butler-Newman-Swann-Savoy-Thompson lines, and the results have been consistent between FamilyTreeDNA, Ancestry, and 23andme- very little if any Native American showing up, mostly European and African. I have also done the genealogical research which supports the DNA results. I also know that several who did not fall under those family lines are coming back with higher Native American results, so its not a matter of the companies not testing for those markers. For those of you who know me, you know that I am ALL about family, but I am also about the TRUTH. I found it odd that the comments on that page jumped up to 382, but very few were actually participating-maybe because of fear of being backlashed or banned from the group. I however invite everybody to share their thoughts about DNA, growing up in Southern Maryland, and the tribe itself. My DNA result percentages came back 49.54% West African, 41.19% European, 9.27% Middle East.
