This was supposed to be a year of rebuilding, a year to bring along the incoming core of talent and assemble a squad that would be dangerous down the road. One thing’s for sure: Wenatchee wasn’t a sure-fire pick to make the final four in 4A baseball. In fact, making it to state — let alone surviving the first round of competition — is a goal few thought achievable when the spring season started. Yet here the Panthers are, prepping for their first semifinal contest since 1995 when they made it to the championship game. They face South Kitsap (21-5) on Friday at Gesa Stadium in Pasco for a chance to play in Saturday’s state championship. ...
