This was the first of two historic homes we stopped at in the Hamptons. This was in East Hampton, and it was a farmhouse. I hadnt realized that this part of Long Island was settled in the late 1600s. It should make sense, I think Jamestown, VA was 1609, and I have been to Plymouth, MA, which was also one of the early colonies, and the English worked their way up the coast. The garden and flowers were beautiful. The guide we had was also someone who does reenactments, so she was very knowledgeable. She told us what many of the plants in the herb garden were for medicinally. Most of the time, when Marian and I plan a road trip, we do not opt to take a bus because we want the flexibility to go off on our own (which especially when I am exploring something historical, I can definitely do...), but I have to say, I would recommend this tour to anyone who wants a taste of the area but doesnt feel like doing the big drive or dealing with the traffic. We were very pleasantly surprised that coming home, even though it was the tail end of rush hour, the traffic, including the infamous Cross Bronx Expressway, was slim to none. The storms held off till we got home, as well.
