This week I was able to begin combining two of my Passions: - TopicsExpress

This week I was able to begin combining two of my Passions: training animals and whips. I followed up with all of the material from last week I spent working with Thor(my horse), then added new material which included: exaggerated my incompetence with saddling to get him used to the smaller amount of incompetence I actually have. Opened up an area off the round pen to get him used to following in larger areas. I made sure the areas were noticeable larger but still small enough that I could run him and control the space. Then a larger area that had a soft, uneven, raised Center that was great to get him learn that, yes even then he still has to follow. The perimeter was firm enough to run him though. I also was able to show him that when he is beside my the whip doesnt hurt him and it isnt scary. I did this by slowly rubbing the whip on him, then around him the up to a variety of forehand, back hand and overhead crack beside, above, in front, behind and over him. I did this with me between him and the whip and then the whip between him and I. At the end of today he seemed fairly board with the whip, which was the goal. He still understands that it is use to the run him when he is a Turkey. I was able to get him to eat out of my hand the field without hesitation, last week they was difficult even after round penning. The trust is being built which is to be very rewarding. Next week will be working him in an even larger pen, lunge lining in the field, sacking out, making sure he is easier to ferried and start driving with him from the ground(bridle work).
