This week, Pastor David started a new series called “One Chapter Truth -- Lessons from the shortest books of the Bible” Do What You Know You Should. ---------------------------------------------- In Obadiah, we can learn from a prophecy that was given to the Israelites. Why God was so hard on Edom, anyway? Edom’s big sin (v11) was that he didn’t do the right thing. He made a promise, but then held back to save himself. We need to focus on what we should do and let God deal with the rest. In every society, there are voices of influence, and they might lead a nation astray (v8). But there will be a time where God will wipe them out. Do we really want to be standing with them when that happens? The Golden Rule (v15, v6, v13b) reminds us that, without God we want to reciprocate. But with God, we have grace. Like Edom, we might think that we are holy by avoiding sins -- But James 4:17 says that it is also a sin not to do the things that we know are right. We need to trust God and do the right thing – even when we have been betrayed or hurt. Then we can experience the greatness of God. He has a place for us in His unfolding plan. Suggested application: -- Stop with the excuses! Memorize and meditate on James 4:17 or Philippians 2:14-15. -- Make sure God’s Word shapes your worldview. Open yourself to God so that He can shape your thinking. -- Consider what you know you should do but have put off. DO IT.
