This week at St Johns we are looking at Jesus going into the temple and turning over the tables of the merchants and money changers and chasing them out with a whip In is interesting to note that we now have a commonly used expression “to turn the table” which the dictionary tell us is “to change a situation so that someones position is the opposite of what it was”. For me, this event in the life of Jesus turns the table on how I think about him. That he is not a “push over” but a strong character , who fought for what he believed was right was willing to stand up to the authorities when he saw corruption. I also know he “turned the tables” for me by his death on the cross. “But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of righteousness, for all who receive it will live in triumph over sin and death through this one man, Jesus Christ”(Romans 5:17). . What a great God have we.
