This week has marked the significance of Cervical Cancer Awareness Week. With the intent to make not only the whole of Australia but the world aware of this devastating disease, Cervical Cancer Awareness Week offers the public a chance to be educated about cervical cancer, as well as informing those effected by the cancer that they are not alone. Defined as an abnormal growth of cancer cells in the lining of the cervix, with the worst case scenario developing into tumours and spreading throughout the body. The most common causes of this cancer are through HPV, Smoking, a weak immune system, or family history. Left untreated and neglected, cervical cancer is a heartbreaking condition, causing an estimated death of 300,000 women each year worldwide. Preventative measures to be taken to increase your chances of staying healthy are through regular pap smears and taking the Gardasil injection.
