This week in 1971: The Who scored their first & only UK #1 album with their 5th studio release, Whos Next, featuring such perrenial classics as Wont Get Fooled Again, Baba ORiley & Behind Blue Eyes (it peaked at #4 in the US); produced by Glyn Johns, it featured the bands first recorded use of synthesizers; the album had its origins in a rock opera conceived by Pete Townshend called Lifehouse; the ambitious, complex project did not come to fruition & instead, many of the songs were compiled as a collection of (rather excellent!) unrelated songs; Rolling Stone ranked it #28 on their list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time…
