This week in 1996: Nirvana went straight to #1 on the US albums chart with the release of From The Muddy Banks Of The Wishkah, on DCG Records (it also topped the charts in Canada & Australia, & peaked at #4 in the UK); featuring live electric performances recorded between 1989-94 (in contrast to their previous acoustic live album, 1994s MTV Unplugged in New York), it was the second Nirvana album to be released following the death of singer/guitarist Kurt Cobain in April 1994; it was compiled primarily by Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic, who also penned the liner notes; the title refers to the Wishkah River in Aberdeen, Washington, where Cobain claimed to hang out under the Young Street Bridge as a teenager…
