This week in American History: On the blustery Wednesday afternoon of October 26, 1881, the Townsfolk of Tombstone, Arizona witnessed the most notorious shootout in the history of the West. In vacant lot, at the rear of the OK Corral, City Marshal Virgil Earp, joined by his brothers Wyatt and Morgan and local gambler and close friend to Wyatt, John Doc Holliday, exchanged gunfire with 4 local cowboys aka The Clanton & McLowery Brothers. THREE MEN HURLED INTO ETERNITY IN THE DURATION OF A MOMENT, read the headline in the following mornings edition of The Tombstone Epitaph, October 27, 1881.
