This week my drivers license was revoked. The ministry of transport invited me to appeal, kind of like a challenge for me to prove them wrong. Their decision was based on a medical/psychological report of an extensive examination carried out on me in the course of whole, long, exhausting day of tests which showed that I have problems of a cognitive nature. My interpretation of that is I dont arrive at a correct, logical solution when I have to put two or more events together, like saying 2 + 2=5 and not understanding why the correct answer should be 4. I remember learning these things by heart at school but I didnt really believe in the correctness of the answer. To this day I doubt these things. Philosophically it might not be a bad thing to be skeptical about the things one sees, but while driving a car one is only looking for serious trouble if one sees a brick wall in front of one and doubts its existence. Actually this decision awoke in me a memory of my various motor car accidents, like the time I drove my fathers 5 ton Ford truck into a yard to pick up some timber and happily reversed out of the wide gate in the brick wall. I felt I had done a good job of a tricky situation until I looked toward the gate and was somewhat surprised to see that the white colored wall, which I felt certain I had seen when driving into the yard, was no longer visible from the high seat of the cabin. I decided Id better get out of the truck and witness this miraculous disappearance of the wall. In fact it was now lying completely in a horizontal position. No amount of skepticism helped and I had to admit that there was some connection between the truck pulling out of the yard and the flattened wall. So now at long last its official I should never have been driving a motor vehicle and all those whove at one time or another driven with me in a car should say a silent prayer of thanksgiving. I never agreed with the opinion my friends had about my driving abilities now I agree with them. You were right guys.
