This week, the U.K. banned the use of wild animals in circuses, and Los Angeles banned the use of bull hooks, a sharp tool used by circus trainers to beat elephants into submission so that they will perform tricks. In NYC, the legislation banning wild animals in circuses was killed in committee by Speaker Christine Quinn, but the bill will undoubtedly be re-introduced when she is out of office in January.
