This weekend marks The Scarlet Oaks one year anniversary on Etsy. This chick had absolutely zero clue what she was doing in the beginning, and was stepping out in faith by quitting her bill paying job to do this. There was no proof that this experiment would work...just the encouragement of others, and a conviction that it HAD to work. Shortly before quitting said job, she attended an event where flag #8 was auctioned off. A young Republican approached her, excited about her new business venture. He asked her to tell him all about her business plan. (He was a business major, bless him.) She tried her best to stifle the laugh, as she had NO plan. The ink on her business cards was barely dry in time for this event. God got her to start this art business (what???), so the ball was kind of in His court. The blank look was priceless, but it was totally awkward in hindsight. Today The Scarlet Oak took its 70th Etsy order (flag #120). Each flag takes about three days of something being done to it, and each one averages an hour to pack if it is being shipped. Thats a lot of math to say that there isnt enough sleep going on over here, but I am absolutely grateful for every minute of the sweat, sawdust, and super loud music. Thank you!
