This weeks article in the Headlight: Can we boast? This world is not about you. In a earth full of over 7 billion people, somehow we get the impression that it is about us. When speaking about God’s work, we somehow begin to think the same thing. So many churches around are busy doing God’s work and we so easily turn it in on ourselves. For God’s work to be effectively accomplished, His people must be more concerned with Him than ourselves. This is not a new concept. Jesus said so Himself, “Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and God told the children of Israel, “Thou shalt have no other gods before Me.” This has to include ourselves. We can take a look at a couple of Bible characters and see this truth. John the Baptist was a man who heralded the coming Messiah. He had a vibrant and powerful ministry on the cusp of Jesus Christ. But when speaking about Jesus, he said in John 3:30, “He must increase, but I must decrease.” John understood that His life was all about Jesus and He wanted the world to know that as well. One of the most well known and amazing men in the Bible is the apostle Paul. He was the greatest missionary our world has ever known. He wrote over half of the New Testament and so if anyone deserved to be honored it was Paul right? That is not the way He thought about it. He called himself the “chiefest of sinners.” He even told the church at Galatia in Galatians 6:14, “But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.” If Paul cannot boast, how can we say it is about us? Be encouraged to know this world is not about us but about the One who created it. He is worthy to be worshipped and we should be encouraged to know that we can put our trust in Him. Live your life in complete surrender and adoration of the One who deserves it: Jesus!
