This weeks song, part 1 Last week, we featured a song that started out with theres no time for us ... theres no place for us . A bit of a downer, even if the song tried to lift the mood later on. But the words themselves just sounded so ... familiar. Lets visit two songs that start out with the reverse lyrics. Time first. A time for us was a song written for the 1968 film version of Shakespeares Romeo and Juliet. Actually, this was an alternate set of lyrics to the tune, that somehow got associated with the movie ... long story, dont worry about it. LYRICS A time for us, some day therell be When chains are torn by courage born of a love thats free A time when dreams so long denied can flourish As we unveil the love we now must hide A time for us, at last to see A life worthwhile for you and me And with our love, through tears and thorns We will endure as we pass surely through every storm A time for us, some day therell be a new world A world of shining hope for you and me For you and me And with our love, through tears and thorns We will endure as we pass surely through every storm A time for us, some day therell be a new world A world of shining hope for you and me A world of shining hope for you and me Michel, you are saying,This is just a soppy love song. where do you see any religious content in there? Well, grasshoppers, this is why I am the professor around here. The song is conventional enough up to the point where we see the phrase a new world. Whoa! That is quite a claim. The author is not just saying Hey girl. stick with me and were going to be happy together. No, he is claiming that this love is so momentous that it will create an ENTIRE NEW WORLD. A world of shining hope, no less. This is New Testament language. Look at the rest: Tears: the world is a vale of tears. Thorns: Jesus wore a crown of thorns on the cross. There is a use of words with definite religious meanings in a Christian environment to bring the message across. This love is so big that the only other love that can be compared to it is Jesus love for humanity. Wow. OK, Now to find a video to go with it. I must avoid one dubbing this song over scenes from the movie because, SPOILER ALERT, Romeo and Juliet dont actually get to spend much time together ... https://youtube/watch?v=H71xd_L9E10 Look out for part 2 tomorrow
