This weeks tribute honors the life and service of CPT Jennifer Moreno, who died from an IED blast in Zhari District, Afghanistan on October 5, 2013. CPT Moreno, who was assigned to Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington, volunteered to serve alongside a Special Operations Team as a nurse to assist with intelligence gathering from Afghan women who, by cultural norms, do not speak with non-relative males. On a foot patrol during the night of October 5th, she was tending to a wounded soldier when an IED chained to eleven other bombs exploded, killing her and three others.
